Basic facts about Robusta

35% of the coffee consumed worldwide is Robusta. Coffee beans of this variety contain twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans. Robusta has a rich and tart taste, and the richness of the taste directly depends on the height at which it grows: the higher, the richer. Trees of this variety of coffee can reach a height of up to 12 meters!

What about Robusta coffee?

Robusta is the second most popular coffee variety worldwide. It makes up about a third of the world's coffee production. The largest Robusta producing countries are Vietnam, Brazil, India and Mexico. Humid and hot climate in these regions is the most favorable for trees of this variety.

Coffee, made from real Robusta beans, has a deep black color, a nutty aroma and a thick cream (foam on the surface of the drink) of the same nutty color. There is a sharp bitterness and a whole range of sensations in the taste of Robusta: from tart, sour notes to a soft aftertaste of walnut and chocolate.

Vietnamese Robusta

Over the past 10 years, Vietnam has held the first place in the production of Robusta and its export worldwide. The Vietnamese were largely able to achieve such global results due to the natural wealth of the country and its climate: the fertility of the soil in some provinces allows local producers to collect about 12 harvests of Robusta from one plantation per year without the use of growth-promoting chemicals. Therefore, the main feature of Vietnamese coffee is its naturalness. Vietnamese Robusta grows very high - about 1500 meters above sea level.

Interesting facts

As we found out above, Robusta has a fairly tart taste. Sometimes it may seem to be excessively saturated. The feature of the Vietnamese Robusta is that it is not as tart as Robusta grown in other countries. Its bitterness has an unobtrusive taste, devoid of sharpness.

Robusta coffee beans from Vietnam contain 18% of essential oils; these essential oils give the drink a sweet taste. Vietnamese Robusta also contains sugar, so after roasting, the grains turn dark brown and smell sweety.
